Investor expectations send bourse index to 60-day high
The Greek bourse enjoyed significant gains yesterday, taking the benchmark index to a new two-month high on rising market expectations ahead of the government program to be announced on Friday in Parliament.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 650.27 points, adding 4.87 percent to Tuesday’s closing figure of 620.07 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 4.76 percent to close at 238.32 points.
Ellaktor outperformed with gains of 9.17 percent, followed by OTE telecom (up 8 percent). PPC added 5.56 percent after news of improving its liquidity. Only Bank of Cyprus (down 3.41 percent) and Duty Free Shops (1.58 percent) suffered losses among the blue chips.
In total, 104 stocks posted gains, 33 recorded losses and 13 remained unchanged.
Turnover grew to 33.6 million euros, from Tuesday’s 22.1 million.
