Saudi interest in Astir Palace hotel

By Dimitra Manifava

Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud, the owner and chief executive of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), expressed the Four Seasons luxury hotel chainís strong interest in the Astir Palace Resort in southern Athens during a meeting on Monday at Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samarasís office.

KHC controls 45 percent of Four Seasons, while another 45 percent belongs to Cascade Investment Company, owned by Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Saudi Arabia has expressed an interest in participation in other hotel chains across Greece through KHC.

It is also eyeing the privatization of enterprises such as Public Power Corporation, ports and railways via the holdings KHC has in consortiums with other investors.

The Saudi prince told an Economist conference on Monday in Athens that Greece is now back on the path to growth thanks to its admirable fiscal performance.
