No less than 6.9 million euros was paid from July 2011 to March 2012 in salaries and expenses for the advisors the Hellenic Republic Assets Development Fund (TAIPED), according to data presented by the government to Parliament on Thursday.
On the day that Takis Athanasopoulos was ratified by Parliament as the new head of the fund, Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras presented the House with data that had been requested by SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras regarding the expenses of TAIPED, which has hardly produced any work to date. The advisers had originally been hired by the Special Secretariat for Privatizations and were later transferred to TAIPED.
In the same period the fund employed 20 people whose total salaries added up to 285,000 euros, while the cost of various trips made by fund officials amounted to 79,000 euros.
Payments to financial, legal and technical consultants -- hired on a decision by the Interministerial Committee for Restructuring and Privatizations -- for services provided per privatization project in the period from June 2010 to June 2012 came to 5.5 million euros.
