Car sales up 18 pct in January compared to a year earlier

Car sales rose by 18 percent in January compared to a year earlier, according to official data released on Monday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

A total of 9,121 new or imported used cars were sold in January, compared 7,727 during the same month in 2013.

There was also an 8.2 percent rise in the number of motorcycles with engine capacity of more than 50cc in circulation. They were up from 1,912 in January 2013 to 2,068 last month.
