Seventh day of losses takes weekly slide to nearly 5 pct

The local bourse benchmark’s seventh consecutive southbound session was also the hardest on local stocks, in line with the drops recorded on most European markets on Friday. It was the first time in two years that the main index posted seven days of losses in a row.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,250.80 points, the lowest since February 24, shedding 2.58 percent from Thursday’s 1,283.96 points. On a weekly basis it recorded a 4.86 percent decline.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 2.95 percent to 402.51 points.

All but two blue chips registered losses, led by National Bank (down 7.25 percent) and Hellenic Exchanges (5.51 percent). Marfin Investment Group climbed 1.27 percent.

In total, 30 stocks went up, 98 dropped and 22 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 136.3 million euros, down from Thursday’s 188.5 million.
