Easter feast 10 pct cheaper this year, say struggling traders
The Easter feast will cost Greek families 10.5 percent less this year compared to 2011, according to the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE).
ESEE has collected prices from open-air markets, super markets and the central meat market in Athens, which suggest that prices of both meat and vegetables have dropped slightly since last year.
Despite the lower prices, traders expect their turnover to drop this Easter as a result of the recession.
They expect overall Easter purchases to reach roughly 4.5 billion euros, down from 5 billion last year.
