Troika expected in Athens before the end of the month
Greece experiences negative inflation of 1.8 pct in December, Eurostat data show
Troika inspectors are expected to return to Athens before the end of the month, European Commission spokesman Olivier Bailly has said.
Responding to a question from Kathimerini correspondent in Brussels Eleni Varvitsiotis during a press briefing on Thursday, Bailly said that talks between Greek government officials and representatives of the country's foreign lenders are ongoing, adding that no specific date has been set for the troika's return to Athens.
The Commission spokesman however rejected Greek media reports that troika officials would return to the Greek capital on January 20 or 22.
Meanwhile, data from Eurostat, the European Union statistical office, on Thursday showed that Greece experienced negative inflation of 1.8 percent in December – the lowest among its European Union peers.
Inflation in the eurozone fell back to 0.8 per cent in the final month of 2013, according to the same figures.
