Bourse gives ground as investors await developments

Local stocks registered losses at the start of the week while turnover returned to a rather lackluster level. Investors appear to be sitting tight in anticipation of developments both on the business and fiscal fronts.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 734.99 points, down 1.08 percent from Friday’s 743.01 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 1.92 percent to close at 271.46 points.

Motor Oil outperformed as it climbed by 3.78 percent. Marfin Investment Group was the worst off among blue chips, shedding 8.19 percent, while Eurobank Ergasias declined by 6 percent.

In total, 54 stocks secured gains, 80 suffered losses and 20 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 47.2 million euros, compared to last Friday’s 104.3 million.
