Bourse index posts losses but stays above 750-point mark
The decline of OPAP’s stock following the decision regarding its tax status on Wednesday weighed heavily on the bourse’s main index, although the majority of stocks ended the day with gains.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 753.06 points, shedding 0.39 percent from Tuesday’s 755.98 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 1.67 percent to close at 277.51 points, but the mid-cap index gained a considerable 3.35 percent.
OPAP’s losses came to 18.37 percent, while the day’s best performer among the blue chips was Viohalco, which added 11.50 percent.
In total, 75 stocks secured gains, 56 suffered losses and 28 remained unchanged.
Turnover came to 101 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 76.1 million.
