Main bourse index has 1,000-point level within its sights

The Greek bourse continued its ascent on Tuesday, with the benchmark index missing the psychologically significant 1,000-point level by a whisker following the Eurogroup decision for the disbursement of the January bailout tranche to Greece.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 999.20 points, a 17-month high, after expanding by 2.41 percent from Monday’s 975.67 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 added 2.85 percent, ending at 336.42 points.

Alpha Bank outperformed with gains of 11.21 percent, while Piraeus Port Authority fared the worst out of of the three blue chip losers, shedding 0.70 percent.

In total 102 stocks registered gains, 65 posted losses and 21 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 63.5 million euros, down from Monday’s 66.2 million.
