Blue chips pave way for third day of bourse gains

The bourse recovery continued for a third consecutive day on Tuesday, as blue chips led the benchmark to gains of almost 1 percent in the first session after the Easter holidays.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,260.72 points, adding 0.97 percent to last Thursday’s 1,248.61 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 1.19 percent to 406.61 points.

Investors’ eyes were firmly on the share capital increases of Eurobank and National, with the former gaining 7.36 percent and the latter 1.27 percent.

Piraeus Bank outperformed the other blue chips, climbing 3.51 percent, while OTE telecom rose 3.30 percent and OPAP gaming company saw its price increase by 3.08 percent.

In total, 78 stocks registered gains, 48 posted losses and 17 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 84.9 million euros, against last Thursday’s 132.8 million.
