Following a decision by the Merchant Marine Ministry, as of last Saturday, the prices of tickets on state-subsidized, less-traveled ferry routes have gone up by 2.4 percent.
The increase is equal to the rise of the Consumer Price Index for 2011, the ministry announced.
This fare hike, the ministry stated, has been applied to routes that either have an exclusive public service contract signed without a specific lease charge, or a public service concession contract for a certain charge.
The law provides for the ministry to dictate the rates for economy-class passenger fares, for cars up to 4.25 meters long and for the rate per meter for vans and trucks.
