Bourse index aims higher after clearing 1,000 points
Another day of growth for local stocks on Wednesday pushed the benchmark index of the Athens bourse well above the 1,000-point level for the first time in almost a year-and-a-half.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 1,019.41 points, expanding by 2.02 percent from Tuesday’s closing of 999.20 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index added 2.59 percent, ending at 345.14 points.
Once again Alpha Bank outperformed with gains of 8.53 percent, followed by Piraeus Bank (up 8.19 percent) and Marfin Investment Group (7.36 percent). Piraeus Port Authority lost 2.48 percent.
In total 105 stocks registered gains, 69 posted losses and 21 remained unchanged.
Turnover grew to 80 million euros from Tuesday’s 63.5 million.
