Shopkeepers may well be able to put up sales signs four times a year from 2013, as the Development Ministry is seriously considering the introduction of two more sales period to the existing ones.
Deputy Development Minister Athanasios Skordas said on Wednesday he would put up a plan for consultation that provides for intermediary sales periods in spring and fall, to run in the first 10 days of May and of November.
The winter sales period will start from the first Saturday of January and not from January 15 as it does now, and the summer sales will start from the first Saturday of July and not July 15. The duration of the summer and winter sales may range from four to six weeks, from just over six weeks now.
An extra provision is likely to be inserted allowing for certain sectors to decide to have a different sales period, so, for instance, the sales for school items could take place in November.
