Self-employed Greeks able to claim monthly unemployment benefit for first time
Self-employed Greeks will be able to claim monthly state unemployment benefit for the first time from March but only if they do not owe any social security contributions, the government has decided.
Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis has issued a decision that allows self-employed professionals to claim 360 euros per month as long as they fulfill certain criteria.
Among the other provisions set out by Vroutsis are that claimants should have been earning social security credits for at least three years, be able to prove that they are not working and not earning a pension.
The maximum period that self-employed professionals will be able to claim the unemployment benefit is nine months.
