Bridge on Tripoli-Kalamata highway nears completion

The Tsakona Bridge, the last remaining stretch of new highway yet to be built near Kalamata, is due to be completed by the end of the year, Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said on Wednesday during a visit to the worksite.

The bridge will stretch over some 300 meters when completed and will cost around 19 million euros.

It will be operated by the Moreas consortium.

It is the only part of the Paradeisio-Tsakona stretch of the national road from Tripoli to Kalamata that has yet to be built.

The construction of the steel arch bridge, which was planned after a landslide destroyed a road in the area in 2003, is considered a challenging engineering project.

“This is a major engineering achievement,” said Chrysochoidis. “It is an impressive project that is being realized by Greek surveys and constructors, Greek experts and engineers.”
