Second day of losses fails to bring bourse index below 1,000 points
While the upward momentum of stocks on the local bourse may be showing signs of weakening, the benchmark is managing to hold the psychologically important 1,000-point mark.
After a second day of losses that were limited toward the session’s end, the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,005.28 points on Tuesday, declining by 0.84 percent from Monday’s 1,013.79 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index shrank by 0.78 percent, ending at 338.38 points.
National Bank outperformed with gains of 2.59 percent, while Marfin Investment Group gave up 4.87 percent and Titan cement fell by 4.68 percent.
In total 50 stocks went up, 127 posted losses and 17 remained unchanged.
Turnover soared to 116.5 million euros from Monday’s 70.2 million.
