Piraeus seen as gateway for Chinese exports to Europe
The presence of Cosco in the port of Piraeus is a strategic one and will have mutual benefits, the Chinese company’s head, Captain Wei Jiafu, said in a meeting on Tuesday with Greece’s Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas, who is on an official visit to China.
Captain Wei stressed that Piraeus can become the gateway for Chinese products to Europe, noting that Greece’s main port could emerge as a distribution hub both for Southeastern Europe and Western Asia.
He added that Cosco’s venture in Piraeus is a model for privatizations.
