Two observations have emerged from events that unfolded in the Greek Parliament during the past few days.

The first is that the chief of the main opposition party has fallen victim to the belief that it is his job to keep increasing the hostile tone of political rivalry, even though there is nothing to be gained from such a tactic. SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras may believe he is rallying the hard core of his party, but he is failing both inside and outside Parliament to gain true support.

Citizens expect greater maturity and a more responsible position on the major issues.

Of course the same can be said of former Prime Minister and PASOK chief George Papandreou. He hurt himself and the country when he chose to settle a score within the party during Sunday’s vote on the multi-bill. He was clearly trying to send some kind of message, but he failed to explain it and no one seems to have understood what it may have been.
