New semester

There is little doubt left that students at the University of Athens and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) – two of the country’s greatest institutions – have lost the first semester of the academic year.

Everyone who played a role in this terrible development should have to shoulder some of the responsibility.

Some believe that the semester can be saved, at least on paper, by having a double exam period in January, but they are just fooling themselves and the students, and debasing our universities even further.

The semester has been lost because students can’t sit exams for classes that never happened.

Those who believe that there is a way of wriggling out of this predicament should bear in mind that they are responsible for throwing a major spanner in the academic performance of thousands of students who want nothing more than to get to class.
