Opening the way to growth

There is only one way to start dealing with unemployment: producing more that the country consumes and increasing exports.

Salaries have already gone down considerably, enhancing the country’s competitiveness, but the obstacles to young entrepreneurs and potential investors will remain unless we break the vicious cycle of cartels, oligopolies, special interest groups and individuals who have created their own professional strongholds and are unwilling to give them up.

If these obstacles are not dismantled one by one, Greece will never get back on the path to growth. It will take several difficult battles and a very watchful eye to make this happen, because it will not rest on one single draft bill being voted through Parliament. Powerful interests, big and small, are well-versed in working their way around laws to get what they want.

For something to change in Greece, the governing powers and the people need to believe in the need for change. Otherwise we will just keep kidding ourselves and others, reducing salaries and pensions to no avail.
