Fundamental contradictions

The deep division running through the ranks of the country’s main opposition party regarding the euro and how Greece’s negotiations with its partners and creditors ought to be carried out is very dangerous indeed.

The crisis which continues to be felt by both Greece and the entire European Union demands responsible and serious political and economic decisions.

It is very difficult for a party which appears so confused to persuade voters that it is ready and able to conduct tough negotiations and reach the kind of decisions that will determine the country’s future.

Had SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras’s turn to the center left been a genuine move, he would have taken it a long time ago, and, in doing so, effectively forced the drachma advocates to make a decision one way or another.

Instead, the party is currently trapped in a series of fundamental contradictions and fragile balances creating a climate of mistrust among voters eagerly hoping to see Greece back on the road to stability and maintaining its undeniably pro-European stance.
