The hardest yet most crucial part of politics is making decisions, something that Greek politicians have shied away from for years over fear of the political cost or any negative publicity they may draw.

It is truly edifying to see how the caretaker government of Panayiotis Pikrammenos has proved an exception to this rule. Within a few crucial weeks, the prime minister and the members of his cabinet took a series of crucial, and possibly risky decisions, such as for the recapitalization of Greek banks and the procurement of specific defense materials, among others.

These are decisions that previous ministers and prime ministers had sitting on their desks for months, if not years, as they pondered the repercussions of pushing them through.

Hopefully, the determination shown by this very short-term but capable and decent government will become a paradigm for others to follow, and they will be ready to make the decisions the country needs to move forward.
