Satisfying public sentiment

The current three-party administration must engage in a particularly fierce battle if it is to suceed in bringing about the kind of structural changes and measures that will eventually lead to the liberalization of a number of closed and uncompetitive business sectors.

It is hard to believe that while wages, rents and property prices are on their way down, this is not the case when it comes to the pricing policies of certain crucial spheres of the Greek economy.

This is one battle which the government supported by the New Democracy, PASOK and Democratic Left parties will find hard to win.

However, it is a battle which could bring a number of political benefits to those willing to put up a fight.

It’s a rare case of memorandum-related action which, while going against powerful interests, could at the same time prove highly gratifying in terms of satisfying public sentiment.

At the end of the day, this is an issue of political courage alone.
