Another blow to industry

It looks as though another major Greek industrial unit is about to close down, and this time it will not be because of the crisis. The mess at the Halyvourgia steel plant shows that a large portion of the unionists representing workers there are not interested in ensuring job security and continue to thwart every effort find common ground between workers and management in what is a futile revolutionary exercise.

At the end of the day, though, their intransigent stance means that it is the workers who will end up paying the price for the failed negotiations and they will lose their daily bread.

The incomprehensible position adopted by the left, as well as by hardcore unionists, comes in combination with a hostile attitude from the state toward business, a combination that has led to the demise of Greek industry.

From the time of the Pirelli tire factory in Patra up to the present deadlock involving the Halyvourgia steel plant, the so-called pro-worker groups have been allowed to do whatever they can to stop hardworking Greeks from making a living.
