Avoiding extremes

The best thing that parties and candidates can do for voters in view of the upcoming elections is to avoid extremes and senseless hyperbole. The quality of political discourse in Greece has declined drastically over the past few years. The quality of candidates, especially those who are well-known public figures to lure voters, is also considerably lower this time around, while excess reigns supreme in public dialogue.

In fact, now that Greece has entered a phase of stability, the powers wishing to see it veer from its course are pushing the country to the rocks because they realize that in a normal, European Greece they wouldnt stand a chance.

Responsible political leaders ought to disregard the voices of fierce populism and the temptation of extreme polarization.

If they were to fall into this trap, they would be acting against the countrys interests given that what Greece really needs at this point is stability and, most of all, a sense of national engagement and understanding in order to leave the crisis behind.
