Building a solid state apparatus

The conservative-led government is making a valiant effort to modernize the countrys public administration.

Bringing the system up to a decent standard is of course a painstaking process that will require many years.

That said, there are certainly two or three things to get started with: Measures such as the appointment of senior officials on the basis of an unbiased and transparent process, the introduction of performance evaluations for all staff, and the installation of a permanent structure for every ministry are taken for granted in other European Union countries.

Greece needs to take these steps now, because no country can achieve prosperity and well-being without having first built a solid and responsible public administration.
