Three more medals in Paralympics

Paschalis Stathelakos collected his second Paralympic medal.

By George Georgakopoulos

Greece's Paralympic medal tally has reached up to nine after Aristidis Makrodimitris and Paschalis Stathelakos earned their second medals in London 2012 and Christos Tabaxis his first.

Swimmer Makrodimitris finished second in the 50-meter backstroke S2 final on Wednesday to claim silver with a time of 1 minute and 4.71 seconds.

Then on Thursday Stathelakos added a bronze medal in shot put F40 to his silver in discus F40, with his best shot at 12.78 meters.

In a statement he made later, Stathelakos said he and his teammates in the national Paralympic squad felt that the Greek state has abandoned them, «which explains the drop in the medals rate in this Paralympics», he said, adding that without the state's support Greece may not be represented in the next Paralympics at all.

Tabaxis, who had carried Greece's flag in the opening ceremony, grabbed Greece's third silver medal in the Games on Thursday evening by finishing second in the final of the 50 meters backstroke S1, with a time of 1.04.29.
