Kokkalanis surfs to third in Worlds

By George Georgakopoulos

Greek windsurfing champion Byron Kokkalanis won the bronze medal at the World RS:X Championship on Thursday.

Kokkalanis fought throughout the week to capture a spot on the podium in Brazil, ranging between the third and the fourth spot, but managed to finish third among 66 surfers at Bouzios, in one of his best performances ever.

In early January he had told Kathimerini that his aim would be "to go to Brazil and fight for a medal."

The 27-year-old had also finished sixth at the London Olympics last summer.
