Panathinaikos signs Croat forward Petric

Panathinaikos announced on Thursday the signing of Croat international Mladen Petric who had been out of contract since end-December when his contract with West Ham was terminated.

The Greens stated they have signed the 33-year-old striker for a year and a half.

Petric was presented on Thursday afternoon by Panathinaikos, and he is expected to debut with the Greens in the game against Platanias for the 21st round of Super League games, as he is expected to have to work for at least two weeks on his fitness.

The Brcko-born forward has 45 caps and 13 goals to his name with Croatia.

He has had a great career in Switzerland and Germany with such clubs as Grasshoppers, Basel, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg, before going to England for Fulham last season, where he had a mediocre season with five goals in 23 games.

He only played three games as a substitute for the Hammers after arriving to Upton Park from Fulham in the summer of 2013.

Upon his arrival at the Athens airport on Tuesday he admitted that his Greek wife played a part in his signing a contract with Panathinaikos.
