Olympiakos hires coach Bartzokas

By George Georgakopoulos

European basketball champion Olympiakos announced late on Sunday the signing of coach Giorgos Bartzokas for the next couple of years.

After the departure of Dusan Ivkovic and the decision to slash the budget for the new season in the context of the Greek economic crisis, Olympiakos has opted for the coach who led Panionios to the third spot in the league last season.

The 47-year-old coach had also led Maroussi to the top-16 of the Euroleague in 2010, the year he was also voted as the A1 division's best coach.

"It is an honor to represent a club like Olympiakos and I feel proud of that. After all this is the champion of Europe and Greece, a club with a great history. This does not only constitute an honor but also a major responsibility for me,» Bartzokas told the official site of Olympiakos basketball club.
