Week after week Olympiakos is edging closer to a tremendous record, as it has already completed almost a quarter of this season’s Super League with nothing but victories in its games, after its comfortable 4-0 win over Xanthi on Saturday.

The Reds are now five points clear at the top of the table, largely thanks to a spectacular 12-minute spell at the start of the second half at the Karaiskakis Stadium that saw them turn a meager 1-0 advantage to a 4-0 triumph.

Costas Manolas, Jose Holebas and Rafik Djebbour (twice) were on target for the Greek champion, with all goals coming from the 37th to the 63rd minute, allowing Olympiakos to save some strength till the end of the game ahead of its key Champions League game at Montpellier on Wednesday.

PAOK moved up to second thanks to a 1-0 home win over disappointing AEK on Saturday courtesy of a Stefanos Athanasiadis strike. AEK remained at the foot of the table after its first game with Ewald Lienen on its bench.

Panionios has now dropped to third after its surprise home loss to Kerkyra with a 1-0 score on Saturday. Former Panionios player and coach Akis Mantzios led the Corfu team to victory sealed by a Yiannis Karalis goal.

Just like in its away game against AEK at the Olympic Stadium, Aris snatched a point at the same ground against Panathinaikos on Sunday as it managed to equalize in he end through Yiannis Yianniotas the goal that Lazaros Christodoulopoulos had scored from the penalty spot. Aris played the last 15 minutes with 10 men.

In other games on Sunday Asteras Tripolis thrashed Veria 3-0 at home and PAS Giannina saw off host Panthrakikos by the same score, while Atromitos and Levadiakos shared a goalless draw at Peristeri.

Monday will see the Cretan derby between Platanias and OFI.
