Kerkyra survives in Super League

By George Georgakopoulos

Kerkyra snatched the last ticket to next season’s soccer Super League by finishing the regular season in 13th place on Sunday, sending Panetolikos and Ergotelis down to the second division along with Doxa Dramas in the process.

The Corfu club drew 1-1 at Aris, but did not even need that as it was already ahead of Ergotelis, which lost 4-2 at Xanthi, and Panetolikos, which went down 4-0 at Panathinaikos.

Champion Olympiakos won 2-0 at Atromitos, while AEK failed to beat Doxa, drawing 1-1 in Thessaloniki. These results, along with Panathinaikos’s win and PAOK’s 4-3 loss at Levadiakos, mean that the playoffs for a place in next season’s Champions League qualifiers, involving the teams from second to fifth, will start their mini-league with Panathinaikos on four points and PAOK, Atromitos and AEK with no points.

The day’s other results were OFI 0 PAS Giannina 2 and Asteras Tripolis 2 Panionios 0.
