AEK finally gets elusive vistory
Athens club defeats Platanias 1-0 at home, but remains in the drop zone

AEK scored its first victory in the Super League on Sunday, in an otherwise barren weekend that saw just four goals in six games. Despite that win, the once-mighty Athens team remains rooted at the foot of the table. With Olympiakos and Panathinaikos not in action until Monday evening, the focus this weekend turned on Panionios and AEK, the only winners on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Panionios defeated 10-man Panthrakikos at Komotini with a 2-1 score thanks to two goals by Christos Aravidis, while Juan Munafo had equalized for the hosts. The result has taken the Nea Smyrni club back up to the second spot. New AEK coach Ewald Lienen led the Yellows to a 1-0 victory over visiting Platanias courtesy of a Taxiarchis Foundas goal. The games between Levadiakos and Asteras Tripolis, Kerkyra and PAOK, Veria and Xanthi, and PAS Giannina and Atromitos all ended goalless. The game at Giannina was stopped for 45 minutes due to torrential rain, but resumed without any further problems. On Monday Olympiakos travels to Aris and Panathinaikos visits OFI at Iraklio. |
