Filippidis smashes pole-vault record

By George Georgakopoulos

Greek pole-vault champion Costas Filippidis cleared an astonishing 5.83 meters at Linz on Thursday to smash his own national indoor record of 5.75 m.

The Greek jumper won the Linz meeting with a performance that also beats his own outdoor record of 5.80 m.

It has also placed him in the world’s top three this year, behind Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie (with 5.92 m.) and German Bjorn Otto (with 5.90 m.).
