No problems for Olympiakos against Fenerbahce

By George Georgakopoulos

Olympiakos strolled to its third win in six games in the second round of the Euroleague, beating Fenerbahce Ulker 82-71 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Thursday.

The host was clearly better than the Turkish team, which lagged considerably in rebounds as has done for most of the competition to date.

The Reds led by as many as 23 points (72-49) and would have scored a win by a much greater margin had it not been for a rather complacent performance in the last quarter of the game, possibly in view of the crucial league game against Panathinaikos on Monday.

Olympiakos will not be happy with its free-throw record on the day, that was below 60 percent (16 out of 27).

Vassilis Spanoulis scored 15 points for Olympiakos, but Stratos Perperoglou was precious for his team, too, with five points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The game was stained by the expulsion of Olympiakos’s Acie Law and Fenerbahce’s Romain Sato – a former Panathinaikos player – who traded punches in the first half.
