Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

P. KANELLOPOULOS: Defense Minister Mr Panayiotis Kanellopoulos returned at 7.30 p.m. yesterday from America (...). He made the following statement to the press: “(...) My mission to the USA was facilitated by three things: First of all, the Americans’ respect for the sacrifices made by the Greek people and for the value of our armed forces; secondly, their affection for our monarchs, who during their visit to the US won the hearts of the American people; and thirdly the appreciation of the fact that Greece has a strong and stable government, headed by someone who has the respect of the international community, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos.” ARAB SUPPORT: United Nations, New York, 31 (From our correspondent A.A. Antonakakis) - “The Arab states will wholeheartedly support any application by Greece to the United Nations regarding the union of Cyprus with Greece,” Lebanon’s permanent representative in Athens told Kathimerini today. “The Arab states believe in the principle of self-determination and the people of Lebanon know that the Greeks of Cyprus are demanding that right,” he added.
