Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

BRITISH AID: Patras, 3 - The British ambassador in Athens, Mr Peak, is to arrive in Patras tomorrow on board a British vessel, accompanied by Mrs Miller, the head of the Greek branch of the British-Canadian organization Save the Children. Mr Peak will leave immediately for the quake-stricken islands of Cephalonia, Zakynthos and Ithaca, accompanied by the British Consul here. According to a consulate announcement, the purpose of the ambassador’s visit to the Ionian Islands is to make an on-site review of the quake victims’ needs and above all to ascertain how the money raised in Britain can be put to best use in reconstructing the towns and villages on the three islands. UNDERSECRETARIAT FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE ISLANDS: Tomorrow, the parliamentary deputy for Mesolongi, Mr Christos Evangelatos, is to be sworn in as the head of the newly formed Undersecretariat for the Recovery of the Islands, based in Argostoli. THE CORGIALENION LIBRARY: A request has been put to the Education Ministry for the 20,000 books retrieved from the Corgialenion Library in Argostoli be stored temporarily in a wooden warehouse. AID FROM LIECHTENSTEIN: Donations continue to arrive from Red Cross branches abroad. The latest is a donation of 500 francs from the Red Cross in the Principality of Liechtenstein.
