That harmony of morals and aesthetics, thought and action should be emphasized wherever it is encountered – and that is not very often. This is the desire of every genuine intellectual and the demand of those who only find real joy when they encounter a truly complete personality, an artist whose life and work emanate the same quality, in which life does not cancel out the work. ‘Everyone recognizes me in my book,’ says Montaigne, ‘and my book in me.’ These are wonderful words that should be the motto of every real artist who feels that the quality of the soul determines that of the work, and that a mediocre soul is incapable of creating a truly excellent work.” ROBIROS MANTHOULIS: On Tuesday (January 8) Robiros Manthoulis, film director and professor at the Cinema Academy, will speak at the Hellenic-American Union on “The Dynamism of American Cinema.”
