Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

KANTIOTIS AGAINST CARNIVAL: Patras, 4 - Archimandrite Avgoustinos Kantiotis, who arrived in Patras yesterday and this morning, went to Mesolongi promising to remain there for a few days but caused a stir this afternoon when he decided to return to Patras to lead his supporters in their protest against the Carnival celebrations. (...) When Mr Kantiotis arrived in town, he went before the few supporters who had gathered in nearby Three Allies Square, marched to Aghiou Nikolaou Street and turned into Corinthou Street under the watchful eye of the police. (...) Finally, the police officers forcibly put the archimandrite in a passing bus and took him to the home of the president of the Christian Orthodox organization in the district of Ano Zavlakes where further incidents took place. Kantiotis’s supporters asked to see him and to kiss his hand, but the police prevented them. The archimandrite protested loudly from inside the house against all and sundry. The police broke up the crowd and put the premises under guard.
