Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

PARTHENON MARBLE: Washington, 4 - Mr Dimitris Alexatos, head of the Greek Boy Scouts, leaves today for the Washington, DC to offer President Truman a piece of marble from the Parthenon “in gratitude for the great help the American Boy Scouts offered their Greek counterparts during the postwar period.” President Truman is also the honorary president of the American Boy Scouts. Mr Alexatos is accompanied by Messrs G. Legakis, head of the Athens scouts, I. Kallergis, adviser to the embassy, and others. RED ANTI-SEMITISM: Paris, 4 - According to observers here, the hanging of the 11 leading communists of Prague does not appear to be the final chapter in the bloody mop-up operations behind the Iron Curtain (...). It appears to be only a forewarning of more upheaval in the ranks of communist parties in the West, due to a new wave of Red anti-Semitism similar to that practiced by the Nazis. EPON: The bandits’ radio station yesterday referred to the arrest of nine members of the Communist Youth (EPON) and their intention to escape from Greece “myth and pure provocation by (Prime Minister Alexandros) Papagos.” KANELLOPOULOS: After being sworn-in as national defense minister, Mr Panayiotis Kanellopoulos, speaking to military officers, said that the armed forces were the pride of the Greek people, and that during the war against the bandits they had lived up to the nation’s expectations.
