EISENHOWER: Supreme Allied Commander of Europe for NATO Gen. Dwight Eisenhower arrived yesterday in Athens to consolidate human freedom. He said he was satisfied with the organization of Greece’s military. Western diplomatic and military circles attribute particular importance to Eisenhower’s visit to both Ankara and Athens. Eisenhower’s visit, occurring after the finalization of the two countries’ entry into NATO, and their participation for the first time as equal members of the Lisbon Council, is to conduct an on-the-spot survey of all aspects of the two countries’ military capability and to ascertain existing requirements. USA AND PLASTIRAS: Relations between the two ruling parties (Nikolaos Plastiras’s EPEK and Sophocles Venizelos’s Liberals) and US diplomatic and economic missions in Athens have become tense to the point where further cooperation between the two sides has become problematic.
