TRADE WITH USSR: The Trade Ministry has announced that the tender has been accepted in Russia for the supply of $340,000 worth of paraffin for the needs of the state monopoly. HIGH SCHOOL CHILDREN: High school children in Thebes, who have quite rightly been banned from the cinemas, have invented a code to inform the others in the event of a raid by a teacher: “Fire!” The result was that as soon as the headmaster entered the theater, the signal was given and the audience streamed out in a panic, many of them injuring themselves in the process of trying to escape what they thought was a fire on the premises. The signal was admittedly symbolic, and will provide fuel for their own fire.
