Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

CYPRIOT MILITANTS' TRIAL: Paphos, 5 - The expected confession from the accused Greek and Cypriot patriots that their intention was to give the island its freedom was made courageously today before a British court. The trial staged by the British authorities (...) ended with the «confession» of the accused. (...) The prosecution claimed that the accused «attempted by the force of arms» to overthrow the government in Cyprus. (...) The counsels for the defense will appeal for clemency. Nine men were found guilty. Two others were acquitted. MAKARIOS: Archbishop Makarios, Ethnarch of Cyprus, during a dinner in his honor yesterday, given by the Foreign Press Association of Greece, accused the British government of provoking the uncertain situation prevailing on the island at the moment. AMERICAN AID: The coordination minister, Mr Panayiotis Papaligouras, is to brief US Ambassador Cavendish Cannon today on the country's requirements after the recent earthquakes in Thessaly, combined with the increased military expenditure and the reconstruction program.
