Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

ELECTORAL SYSTEM: Caretaker Prime Minister Constantinos Georgakopoulos completed talks yesterday with the leaders of the various political parties with regard to the electoral bill, after failing to reach any agreement with them. Nevertheless, given that both the major parties, the National Radical Union and the Liberals, are standing by their desire for a reinforced majority system, the government appears determined to appear before Parliament, probably next Monday, and after asking for a vote of confidence, to pass the bill. A majority vote on the main provisions in the bill is considered certain. Nevertheless, a number of amendments are to be submitted regarding the division of the geographical and political regions, the number of seats and the percentage of the vote required for inclusion in the second count, among other things. SOLDIERS AND MISSILES: The Panhellenic Association of Soldier Victims of War and Outlaws has issued an announcement criticizing propaganda against the siting of missiles in Greece. They emphasize that Greece’s enemies are exploiting the naivete of certain people, trying to convince them that it would not be in the country’s interest to have missiles on Greek bases.
