Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

EXILES: The Interior Ministry has announced that the total number of communists exiled to the island of Aghios Efstratios is now 970, 40 of whom are women. In June, three men and one woman were sent to the island. All have shown good behavior and have not bothered the authorities. Another nine prisoners were released for good behavior, while leave granted to another 28 communists has been extended until the end of September. Meanwhile, leave has been canceled for eight communists who did not properly comport themselves during their leave period. The ministry also announced that the authorities have been closely following the activities of each communist, whether exiled or on leave. Depending on their behavior, the relevant council will decide upon their further exile and leave periods. SOCIAL WELFARE: The Welfare Ministry’s holiday camps for children from families in need or in ill health opened on July 1. Groups have already left for camps in Bisia, near Loutraki, Aegina and Pendeli, and another leaves next week for Rafina. TENNIS: Two tennis courts have been opened at the Theoxeneia Hotel in Kifissia (Kefalari).
