MAETERLINCK: The Attiki Skini’s premiere of Maurice Maeterlinck’s opera “Pelleus und Melisande” will be performed at the Do Re Theater on Wednesday, in a translation by N. Politis, with music by Gabriel Faure and sets and costumes by Liza F. Zaimi. KAZANTZAKIS: The performances of Nikos Kazantzakis’s play “Christ Recrucified” by Manos Katrakis’s Greek Popular Theater are continuing with great success. EXISTENTIALISM: New Books: “Existentialism and Christian Faith,” according to Soren Kierkegaard and modern existential philosophers Karl Jaspers, Martin Heidegger and Jean-Paul Sartre, by Nikolaos A. Nisiotis (doctoral thesis for a postgraduate degree in theology at Athens University) Athens, 1956. KARAMANLIS’S MESSAGE TO THE US: On the occasion of today’s 180th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis issued the following message to the American people: “...No other nation will be as moved by this July 4 as the Greeks, for as you celebrate the achievements of your forefathers in the battle for freedom, about half a million Greeks in Cyprus are struggling for the same principles and goals.”
