“IMPERIALIST” GREECE: New York, 7 – The new Turkish permanent representative to the United Nations yesterday accused the Greek government of imperialism and of being responsibile for the non-implementation of last year’s UN resolution on Cyprus. The Turkish diplomat’s statements were viewed by journalists and other diplomats as being extremely intransigent and as yet another indication that this year efforts to have the Cyprus issue included in the UN General Assembly agenda will be even more difficult for the Greek delegation than last year. The main points in the Turkish diplomat’s statements were a reference to the US State Department’s decision not to receive Archbishop Makarios after pressure from Turkey, and the hope that the UN Secretary-General would not receive Makarios but that if he did, Turkey would lodge a strong protest and take the necessary action. He also said last year’s UN General Assembly resolution on Cyprus had halted terrorist action on the island instigated by Greece, which he accused of intransigence. He also said that Greece’s goals were imperialist, that it was creating a dangerous situation and breaking up Allied unity.
