Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

EISENHOWER RE-ELECTED: Washington, 6 - The tally of the US presidential election, released at 9.35 a.m. local time, is as follows: Dwight Eisenhower 2,543,717 votes, Adlai Stevenson 2,075,598 votes, with the result of 256 electors for Eisenhower in 22 states and 110 electors for Stevenson in nine states. Eisenhower’s success in the southern states of Florida, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia dashed Stevenson’s hopes. There is no longer any doubt that Eisenhower has been elected US president for the second time. OUT WITH BRITISH, FRENCH: London, 7 - International tensions that have arisen over the French-British invasion of Egypt do not appear close to being resolved despite the ceasefire at midnight yesterday... The British and French governments have announced their willingness to withdraw their troops from Egypt as soon as the UN international brigade arrives. Egypt, supported by an alliance of Asian and African states, demands the immediate withdrawal of the invaders (British, French and Israelis) from its territory... The most important new development is that the American permanent representative to the UN, Henry Cabot Lodge, has aligned himself with Egypt.
