Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

WOE TO THE DEFEATED: London, 5 - Interesting details about how the defeated Greek outlaws are living (...) have been reported in Hamburg by refugees who escaped from East Germany. About 4,500 Greeks have been handed over by the Kremlin to the Polish authorities for settlement in territories between the Oder and Neisse rivers. The Greek outlaws are already the largest ethnic group among the various communist populations, including Chinese, Yugoslavs and American Negroes, all used for hard labor in munitions factories for very low wages. The Greeks, however, many of whom are seamen, have settled around areas such as Danzig, where they have been assigned to crews on Soviet and Polish ships transporting war materials to Red China.TITO-STEPHANOPOULOS: Brioni, 6 - At a meeting held here yesterday afternoon, Greek Foreign Minister Stephanos Stephanopoulos and the president of Yugoslavia, Field Marshal Tito, held an initial exchange of views. During the evening, the Yugoslav president held a dinner in honor of Mr Stephanopoulos. The content of the speeches was significant and touched on events beyond the Balkans themselves. CONVICT POPULATION: According to information made available by the Justice Ministry, the number of prison inmates as of January 1, totals 10,901, of which 5,300 are communists.
